Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Category & Insights team on a 9 or 12 months fixed term contract. This is a predominantly home working based role with the successful candidate able to occasionally travel to one of our main manufacturing sites in Corby, Scunthorpe, Westhoughton, Tamworth or Tandragee for face to face meetings with colleagues.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Category & Insights team through effective, timely reporting of performance, changes and impacts. You will need to be an effective communicator both verbally and written, with the ability to bring data to life and will work closely with our commercial and customer facing teams to put action plans into place, based on the data and facts determined.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

· Part of the category management & insights team working with market data software as well as databases through Excel plus internal systems managing deadline based activities. Working under direction of and supporting all team members covering all channels and customers i.e. major multiples, discounters, bargain stores, route to market i.e. convenience, petrol & travel, wholesale/cash & carry and food to go/out of home.

· Covering GB brands and own label working closely with other members of the category & insights team and wider business functions especially sales, marketing and NPD & Innovation.

· Identify and clearly define key category and customer issues and opportunities then generate the insights needed to resolve as requested and as guided by Controllers/Director.

· Setting up market data reports and stories along with the maintenance of various reporting sets and trackers across GB brands and own label on a weekly basis.

· Establishing trends and highlighting any risks or opportunities. Regular review, at least fortnightly, with respective Category Controller and/or Director to determine actions to be taken with sales and marketing.

· Communicate weekly performances for our own and competitor products in the major multiples along with the so what’s to the respective sales person.

· Lead in depth review sessions with the sales team on a monthly basis establishing business opportunities and risks from the data.

· Weekly new listings and distribution changes up-dating and circulating.

· Category and market monitoring plus new product alerts and circulation.

· Competitor activity monitoring by retailer and channels.

· Weekly pricing monitoring and reporting for multiples and discounters.

· Weekly wholesaler supplier performance reporting and TGL’s performance context.

· Store/venue audit work on a frequent basis:

o Own label gap analysis through store audits in multiples and discounters.

o Develop and maintain a tracker to highlight range, price changes over time and activity in discounters.

· Cash & Carry audits with observations along with venue visits for OOH/FOTG as required.

· Undertaking supporting work across category and insights team.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Highly numerate and analytical
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritise workload
  • Currently undertaking a Degree, Educated to Degree Level or equivalent
  • ‘A’ Levels with at least one of Mathematics, Statistics or Economics
  • Intermediate Excel
  • Full UK driving license
  • Ability to work to deadlines

  • Mining data from databases using vendor specific extraction software
